Man, this was one of the shoots I will forever remember. Mark said it best in that a lot of people just think of the Salvation Army as the people who ring the bell during the holidays, and honestly that's all I have know them to be (plus the Salvation Army store). This was an eye opening experience.
Major Stan Colbert is one of the most passionate people I think I have ever interviewed. This video is only 10 minute, but could totally span into a full length documentary. The things that the Salvation Army is doing for the Winston-Salem area is astounding. First, finding out the history behind the word "army" in the Salvation Army made me say "wow" out loud during the interview; I was so fascinated! Second, to tour their headquarters and to see the teddy bear laying in the bottom bunk of the bed really put things into perspective for me. To know that the fastest growing number of homelessness in America is children is one of the saddest things to know. The work that the Salvation Army is doing really restores my faith in humanity and I'm so glad that I was able to be a part of this amazing episode.
